Wanting to quickly consolidate six Portfolio's of 18 codes into one Portfolio without having to retype each individual code, and by preserving the original six as they are.

I tried Exporting each Portfolio then importing under the new Portfolio but all that did was create a new duplicate Portfolio of the original Exported.

Is there a way to copy paste all codes into a Portfolio sheet somewhere in QT's files?

There are about 100 codes to be consolidated from the 6 Portfolio's so want to avoid the typing way.

From within the portfolio manager, export each of the portfolios you want to combine. The exported portfolio files are saved with a PEX extension. Make sure you give the export a name when saving because a default name is not provided.

You can now do a copy/paste between the exported PEX files. They are simple text files that can be opened with notepad. From there you can copy basically everything minus the first and last lines, then paste them into a new PEX file. To get this new PEX file, just make a new, blank, nothing in it, portfolio then export it. It's a little tricky to copy just the correct information. A few practice tries and you'll be a champ at it in no time flat. Once done, import the new PEX file that has all of the pasted symbols in it and you're good to go.

No worries, thanks! ydfah ...have done with 100% success first attempt.
It does not seem to matter about having carriage returns in between lines either.

So to recap cut and paste between these points:
<PORTFOLIO ID="HLKG9"><NAME>CHART BRD_1</NAME><VIEW>BRD SML CHARTS</VIEW><INLINE>9999,N,0,0,</INLINE><COLSORT>0</COLSORT><COLDIR>Y</COLDIR>
paste here

to here
</ITEM></PORTFOLIO>

That's odd, the information in my empty test export file is:

<PORTFOLIO ID="BSQT3">
<NAME>Testing</NAME><INLINE>9999,N,0,0,</INLINE>
paste here

to here
</PORTFOLIO>

I'm guessing the difference is due to portfolio customizations.

yeh prob it was...wasn't a blank export p'folio to start with,,,I used the first one of the six that was set up already and pasted the others data into that, but the principals the same either way. my approach found the file with about 30 or so data lines all jam-packed together without a line break, turning of word wrap only extended the lines off the screen and into the far far distance.

Neat trick tho, was wondering what else can be done behind the scenes in QT...
