I didn't realize that Jerry had left which is certainly a bad sign to me since QT was the primary reason that I moved to AMTD. I just finished talking with a manager in AMTD tech support and was told that "they are supporting QT for now", but there is a likely hood that will be drawn down although a date hasn't been presented.

As a long time user that presents a dilemma for me. Having to learn a new platform, most of which do not have the capabilities of QT is frustrating as hell. But, it's been a good ride and I certainly wish Jerry the very best.

If others are considering a migration, I would be interested in your thoughts.

im sure those bastards want everyone to migrate to thiknoorswim.  why would they want to pay for two platforms.

they should have given the platform back to medved to support.

I don't intend to migrate and hope I don't ever have to.  Would be a serious blow to my trading style.

Same here. Gonna flash off an email to AMTD/Apex after this.  Polite inquiry about QT's status.  Suggest everyone do so else they will easily think, Oh no big loss since not much interest anyway.
Tried ThinkorSwim platform and nothing like QT.  Really horsy to use.
Still finding active traders who use QT and swear by it.  Competition is heating
up among online brokers and can't see AMTD looking to lose customers just to tie clients into just the website and ToSwim.
btw  Just saw Bank of America story about their latest online move. Has some serious competitive features, one of which for $25k is 30 free equity free trades per month.  But I thought existing $30k got unlimited trades.  Not sure what's up with that.  Overall tho online brokers are seeing much less retail trading this year.  Maybe due to flash crash, high frequency trading, GS moves, and sense game is rigged.  So BankAmer must figure who needs them.  Hand hold only the richest and let rest fend for themselves since not trading anyway.

I just received this reply to my request for a status on QT's future from Steve Harley Manager, PCS Active Trader, TD AMERITRADE, Inc.

"I apologize for the delay in my response.  Quote Tracker will be drawn down at some point.  They have not given a date for the draw down as of yet.  I have also forwarded your concerns on to the tech support team as well as management but at this point Quote Tracker will still be drawn down in the future.  The reason for the draw down is due to the introduction of the more advanced trading tools, such as thinkorswim."

Not good news for me as I will not use TOS.

I take it a "drawdown" of QT means we cannot use it any longer? (Using QT & IQFeed)...

That's going to be a royal pain in the a$$...Gotta get serious about NinjaTrader, I guess...

BTW, any timeframe on the drawdown? Any chance the Medved's would buy it back and support it? Could "QTusers" get some answers, just for planning purposes...

Thanks.

Looks like the confusion is complete:

Sent an email to request a statement because of the rumours, this is what I got:

Quote
"Despite the fact that Jerry is no longer with the company, QT is still going strong.  We have no official statements leaning in that direction in any way.

Bill"

Seems like we have different stories so far. What are they up to?

Thanks for that info about email & QT status. Until get some direct email from
AMTD saying they've discontinued support for QT I'm hanging in there. Taking the
response as positive since at least they responded.
So hate TorSwim.  Not that I don't want to learn new platform but having piled
thru that beast there's no reason at all to downgrade to it. Yuck. Just glad QT
running as normal.  Not sure if Jerry leaving is a killer impact on future development or just goes into steady-state mode for now.  Works for now.  g/l

Yep..you're right.  For now, I stick with QT too, but I will update my contingency plan in case they start pulling plugs. Still waiting for a public announcement though Grin

omg -- jerry was(is) a real saint -- as was mazel et al -- had been using since the 90's when he used to solicit SI folk about his platform.

I can only guess that TDA wanted a platform across other OS's.  Jerry's is the most versatile i have ever encountered in the msft-PC realm.

I just discovered this subject today when I was unable to get the usual quick response on a problem I was having with average volume parameters being in error.

sigh,

thanx all who reported their findings on this forum subject -- very kind of you.  I guess i will go into withdrawal for a few weeks and hopefully I can figure out something to replace the emptiness i now feel.

FYI - I was able to get a response and overnight remedy to my problem with Avg Vol and % Vol calculations as of today from TDA rep. named Harrison.  So Hopefully, QT will be OK for a while longer.

Thanks for that current info.  Nice to see that stll getting support.
As to Think or Swim.  Decided to just hold nose & wade into it since I cut off
Time Warner tv, keeping only roadrunner broadband.  ToS has free connection to
CNBC which, along w/ Bloomberg TV, was only daytime use of TW.
ToS CNBC is good, lacking just the bottom scrolling ticker which QT can be set
to use.  Both too annoying for my taste since most of my plays aren't in that range. Did have SIRI and CHRS that show activity now & then on it but watching
it jump AH on a Cramer recco got to be too weird.
Now only using rr for those QT, ToS, CNBC, and bit of bloomberg.com
QT been pretty solid lately so haven't tinkered with it too much, esp as to
Vol settings.  Mainly using the defaults.  Might look at that again but main
things I noticed were just decision about whether to set values per closing or
opening (gap jumps/falls factored in).
I do watch Vol% still by noticing it.  Price change % is also important too is
going along with a sudden Vol surge.  So in some low priced stocks that get a
sudden pop (news usually but critical if no news). I watch for how much Price %
is changing for a swing trade.  Notice that a stock that gets like a 50% price change, one that's been quiet for awhile, will fall back the next day.  Higher the %, greater the chance of fall rather than continuation.
So if in it, I'll hold on a pop if rise is only @5-10% looking for continuation.
But if some way out number like 100% then out at 3:50pm or open in am.
Glad QT still getting respect.  later.

I doubt TDA will make any sort of 'announcement' about the demise of QuoteTracker, so don't expect one.  I spent some time messing about with TorS, even attended one of TDA's show-and-tells about it at a hotel here in Houston.  The presentation was very good, but in the end I decided TorS is just to fancy for my needs, which are pretty basic.
BTW, I ran T&S on Linux (Ubuntu), but found some clumsy bugs in it that limited its utility on that OS (windows with 'OK' buttons off screen and such.)  I sent TDA a bug letter, as I'd been doing for years with QT, and got a reply the gist of which was that TDA did not regard it as profitable to support T&S for Linux, and not to expect any corrections. So, the one bright spot in the anticipated demise of QT is that since I only keep Windows to run QT, if that goes, so does Windows.  And likely, so does TDA.
I wonder if Medved will get QT or something similar going at some point. If so, I'll almost certainly be a user of that.

Hello.

I see on another forum that Quotetracker will be gone by end of 2011 as per following post on that forum:

Just got word from the company QT is toast as of end of 2011.

"Unfortunately, QT will be drawn down by the end of 2011 as TD AMERITRADE looks to consolidate its resources towards other platforms and projects."

Can anyone confirm this is true ?

Many Thanks.
