I am running Vista with 6 monitors(two Nvidia cards). I am use QuoteLink, which interfaces with QT, to feed an Excel spreadsheet. Several times a day, the excel sheet, the taskbar, and the Quicklaunch bar get screwed up. I can correct the problem by logging off and relogging in, or by terminating explorer.exe and restarting it. If I don't run QT/QL/Excel, it doesn't seem to happen.

Anyone having similar problems.

Anyone having similar problems.

I doubt that many people are running six monitors for you to get a comparison against. Wink

That aside, can you provide your hardware specifications (processor, memory size, etc.), along with the number of items you're tracking in QT (symbols, open charts, paintbars, etc.)?

YES!!! I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!  I'm so happy I'm not alone, although this problem sucks, so I guess I'm not happy for us.   Roll Eyes

Anyway, I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 and if I start QuoteTracker around 9:00AM and leave it running all day... around 3:00PM my explorer.exe GUI gets really screwed up.  All of the screens start overlapping each other and the GUI becomes completely unusable if you leave it for another 10-20 minutes.  The only way to fix it is to either restart the computer or just restart explorer.exe.

Other than running QuoteTracker my computer runs completely stable (never crashes)... and QuoteTracker runs fine until I've had it on until around 3PM.   Huh?

So weird, let's diagnose this thing!   Grin

This problem ends up being a Vista bug and is not specific to QuoteTracker.  Microsoft has a HotFix for it:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932406/en-us

You cannot download the hotfix direct from Microsoft. They only give it out on a case by case basis. But, you can get it from here:
http://thehotfixshare.net/download/index.php?dir=&search=KB932406&search_mode=f

On that page, in the blue area, you should see one file listed - Windows6.0-KB932406-x86.msu

Click on that and install it. That should help.

Haha!  More Inquirer crap.

Vista is the single best operating system ever created.  (I've used Linux and Mac for a while too)  Get over the hate.

Thank you VERY much!  It's odd how this problem only happens in the early afternoon... I can have my computer on for hours at night (even longer than in the day while trading) and no problems.   Undecided

Although... that patch says x86 on it... I'm running x64... so I might go looking for a x64 version of it.  Thank you for bringing it to my attention, because I had no clue what to search for to fix it!  Now I just need to find a 64-bit version of it, which shouldn't be hard.

Thanks again,
Jonathan

I wasn't able to find a 64 bit version of it, but here is the MS KB page for the problem. Maybe something on there will bang a gong for you.

Accoding to MS, that hotfix does not address my problem. I do have the problem in the morning, after the computer has run all night. My displays do not overlap, but the excel screen has a redundant section.

These are the symptoms from the microsoft site.
SYMPTOMS
After a Windows Vista-based computer has been running for a long time, the desktop screen may stop updating correctly. For example, you may experience any of the following symptoms: • Parts of the screen may go black.
• Parts of the screen may become transparent.
• The toolbar may disappear.
• The toolbar may appear at the top of the screen instead of at the bottom of the screen

Every day I go to lunch and when I get back the above has happened.
Loading the fix now.
Thanks to everyone who posts to this site !!!!

I had exactly the same problem and the solution of installing the Hotfix seems to now be solved.  Just like one person described,  I too watch Medved Quotetracker all day long and Vista screws the desktop all up about 3 pm EDT every day. I too installed the hotfix recommended here by one of the heroes on this forum who goes by the login name "ydfah" and re-iterated by "jonathan".  I installed said  fix under the URL address:  "http://thehotfixshare.net/download/index.php?dir=&search=KB932406&search_mode=f " and then installed said fix "Windows6.0-KB932406-x86.msu"

I am thrilled to be rid of this exasperating Vista bug.  Keep up the good work, guys and gals!     From "winner"
